Position Title: Billing Processor

 

Under direct supervision, the Billing Processor is responsible for following pre-established guidelines for posting payments and processing non-pay cancel/reinstates following all state rules and requirements. Performs research on payments received, performs monthly accounting activities, administers collection efforts of overdue premium, and evaluates delinquent payments.

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

 

  • Performs assigned daily billing activities.
  • Maintains a strong working knowledge of all assigned functions, processes, and procedures within Billing Services.
  • Prepares, compiles, calculates, and posts cash with application and premium payments to customer accounts. Reviews system reports and takes appropriate action.
  • Issues/requests, reapplies, disburses or escheats drafts based on legal requirements.
  • Evaluates, researches, and manually applies all payments rejected from lockbox, agency uploads, and pay-by- phone/on-line transactions. Responsible for administering special pay plan invoices and handbills.
  • Evaluates delinquent payments. Verifies approval for reinstatement or refusal using system reports, processes status change into the system.
  • Performs maintenance and billing functions for customers set up on electronic payment. Functions include: Electronic Funds Transfer Request (EFTR), various reports, research, enrollment processing, etc.
  • Reverses payments from customer’s accounts that have been returned from the bank and sends necessary information to the customer.
  • Performs monthly accounting activities for agency billed policies for all assigned agents. Activities include account audits, commission differences, processing daily payments, preparing check authorizations, reviewing reports, recording, and monitoring past due balances, reconciling mid-market installment activities, and responding to agency inquiries.
  • Performs monthly invoicing, account set up and maintenance, past due notices, and dunning for direct billed Custom Bill accounts.

 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

  • 1+ year of billing experience.
  • Proficiency in keyboarding and operating a calculator.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High school diploma, GED or demonstrated commensurate experience.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to operate a 10-key calculator.
