Enterprise Architect 2 Job Summary

Location: Westfield Center, OH Home Office is preferred: open to conversation about remote work arrangements

Salary Range:  $132,612 – $172,396

Enterprise Architects (EA) provide strategy and project oriented planning and execution activities for both information technology and the supported businesses.  EAs are accountable for defining and documenting the enterprise architecture roadmaps, which provide a holistic view of Westfield’s processes, information and technology assets which support and confirm Westfield’s business goals. They also provide direction, guidance and execution support for business process changes and related technology implementations.  

The Enterprise Architect 2 position requires demonstrated experience in at least two of the architecture domains (Business, Applications, Data and/or Infrastructure). 

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

 

  1. Develops integrated solutions to resolve complex technical and business issues.  Applies appropriate governance activities to encourage compliance with technology standards and directions.
  2. Contributes to business and/or technology Architecture Roadmaps.
  3. Develops and enhances foundational architecture artifacts.
  4. Delivers and/or consults on assigned Project/Initiative documents within areas of expertise. 
  5. Assists less experienced domain professionals (Solutions Architects and practioners).  May be asked to assist with management decisions and activities.
  6. Engages in strategic thinking and takes actions based on anticipating both obstacles and opportunities while maintaining a long-term, big picture view of the company’s financial and technology system needs.
  7. Anticipates IT industry future directions and relates them to future Westfield technology needs and projects.  Provides technical leadership to Westfield including being conversant with the future direction of systems, how that direction will impact the enterprise, and how future and current systems can be exploited for the benefit of the enterprise.
  8. Remains continuously aware of business, technical, and infrastructure issues and acts as a consultant to aid in the development of creative solutions.
  9. Identifies and investigates innovative technologies and/or processes that potentially provide value to Westfield.
  10. Promotes business capability model concepts and usage to break organizational silos and leverage common solutions and processes.
  11. Integrates business, application, information (data) and technology (infrastructure) architecture stovepipes to form holistic, business capability-based strategies and solutions.
  12. Promotes and advances the adoption of service oriented architecture (SOA), business process management (BPM) and other service oriented methods and approaches.
  13. Develops clear documentation of issues, options and impacts to support effective decisions making.
  14. Ensures that proposed and existing systems architectures are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.  Promotes adherence to standardized IT processes, strategic principles, and architectural standards.
  15. Promotes a high-impact enterprise architecture program built on metrics, communication and governance with an emphasis on goals and value provided.
  16. Contributes to advancing enterprise architecture practice maturity.
  17. Provides architectural support and direction for projects, initiatives and processes.
  18. Provides a balance between strategy and project oriented activities for both information technology and the supported businesses.
  19. Contributes to developing and enforcing architecture standards and policies.
  20. Actively participates in architectural governance and standards oversight councils. 
  21. Demonstrates ability to provide thought leadership and intellectual capital development.  Establishes, maintains, and shares valued information, roadmaps and reference architectures.
  22. Assesses selected legacy architectures and technologies.  Provides support and input to asset owners.
  23. Travels occasionally in order to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between offices.


Domains:

 

Applications Domain

  • Provides design recommendations based on long-term IT organization strategy.
  • Develops enterprise level application and custom integration solutions including major enhancements and interfaces, functions and features.
  • Provides expertise regarding the integration of applications across the business.
  • Develops programming and development standards and procedures as well as programming architectures for reuse.
  • Has knowledge of state-of-the-art programming language and object oriented approaches in designing, coding, testing and debugging programs.
  • Understands and consistently applies the attributes and processes of current application development methodologies (Agile, waterfall, etc.).

 

Data Domain

  • Responsible for maximizing the value of enterprise data assets by decreasing cost of their ownership and increasing the knowledge that can be derived from them. 
  • Knowledgeable in most aspects of designing and constructing data architectures across, operational data stores, data warehouses, data marts, and big data stores.
  • Focuses on enterprise-wide data placement, integration, and quality.
  • Defines data architecture standards, policies, and procedures for the organization; structure, attributes, and nomenclature of data elements; and applies accepted data architecture standards to technology projects.

 

Infrastructure Domain

  • Responsible for providing senior level expertise on decisions and priorities regarding the enterprise’s overall infrastructure architecture.
  • Facilitates the establishment and implementation of standards and guidelines that guide the design of technology solutions including architecting and implementing solutions requiring integration of multiple platforms, operation systems and applications across the enterprise.
  • Reviews, advises, and designs standard software and hardware builds, systems options, risks, costs vs. benefit and impact on the enterprise business process and goals.
  • Develops and documents the framework for integration and implementation for changes to technical standards.

 

Business Domain

  • Facilitates business strategy formulation and business scenario planning.
  • Analyzes and documents business activities, processes, information structures, and governance structures.
  • Demonstrates a depth of knowledge in business workflows and practices.
  • Provides a consistent and depoliticized view of the business, enabling stakeholders to take a portfolio view of optimizing business processes and IT investments — focusing attention, investment, and resources where they can make the greatest impact.
     

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

  1. Meets or exceeds the qualifications for an Enterprise Architect 1.
  2. At least 7 years relevant work experience in two or more of the architecture domains
  3. Demonstrated ability to define and discern key aspects of a problem and develop an integrated solution within a broad technical and business context of significant impact. 
  4. Recognized internal expert within the relevant domains(s) and often provides strategic direction, guidance and integration of related products and services. 
  5. Demonstrated excellent verbal and writing skills including proven ability to translate technical data into user-friendly terminology and graphics.  Adept at developing and presenting complex material effectively to a wide variety of technical and non-technical audiences.
  6. Capable of working with all levels of the organization.  Ability to positively influence and motivate others in the adoption and implementation of processes and technology.
  7. Proven ability to earn respect and credibility with both technical and business leadership.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, to communicate effectively with non-technical people and to exercise sound judgment.
  9. Demonstrated ability to perform work that is complex and varied, with extensive latitude for independent judgment and minimal to no formal supervision. 
  10. Proven to be comfortable with thought conflict and dealing with ambiguity.
  11. Demonstrated ability to build consensus among many stakeholders.
  12. Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate experience, in information technology or a business related field. 
  13. Demonstrated knowledge and application of project management and business analysis disciplines.
  14. Core insurance industry (preferably Property & Casualty) process knowledge/certification.
  15. Familiarity with IBM’s Insurance Information Architecture (IAA) and/or Insurance Information Warehouse (IIW).
  16. Project Management experience/certification.
  17. Business Process Analysis/Reengineering experience/certification.
  18. Business Architecture Center of Excellence certification.
  19. Information Security experience/certification.
  20. Programming experience.
  21. Information Technology Audit experience/certification.
  22. Valid driver’s license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing, and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to travel as required.
