Actuarial Assistant – Property & Casualty Job Summary

The Actuarial Assistant assists actuaries in gathering information and preparing required reports for projects. Collects information from company, industry, and outside sources for reports, analysis and actuarial projects. Follows prescribed processes in creating datasets, making minor updates to computer programs and spreadsheets, and maintaining record of scheduled actuarial production reports.

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

  1. Assists actuarial team in gathering information and preparing required reports for projects.
  2. Collects information from company, industry, and outside sources for reports, analysis and actuarial projects, such as: rate reviews, competitive surveys, experience reports, reserve evaluations, and filing exhibits.
  3. Creates datasets following already documented processes in support of the Actuarial Department.
  4. Makes minor modifications to computer programs and spreadsheets to generate output consistent with the expected requirements.
  5. Maintains record of scheduled actuarial production reports. Makes sure reports are completed on schedule and verifies results.
  6. As directed, may be responsible for general administrative or support-level duties related to actuarial department operations. This may include but is not limited to scheduling, filing, data-entry, and correspondence with internal and external customers and an partners.

 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

  1. Experience utilizing basic math skills including being accurate with a focus on attention to detail.
  2. Ability to learn basic insurance concepts.
  3. Experience with Microsoft Windows and Excel or other transferable software packages.
  4. Ability to gather information and prepare reports.
  5. Organizational skills gained through previous work experiences.   
  6. Effective time management skills.
  7. Associate’s degree or commensurate experience.

 

Physical Requirements (specific to the role)                                            

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.
