Life Guard Job Summary
- $9.26 an hour
- Must have availability to work a minimum of 4 days and 16 hours per week between the hours of 12pm-8pm Sunday thru Thursday and 11am-8pm Friday and Saturday
Under general supervision, responsible for ensuring the safety, cleanliness and service to Members/Guests. Ensures member(s)/guest(s) satisfaction by delivering excellent customer service. Ensures the safety of patrons of the Westfield Country Club pool by preventing and responding to emergencies. Provides a clean, well-maintained and safe aquatic environment in compliance with both club and public health department standards. Performs cleaning and maintenance duties, checks pool water to ensure safety of guests and applies appropriate chemicals as necessary, enforces pool rules, opens pool at the beginning of day and secures pool area at the end of the day.
Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)
1. Responsible for ensuring the safety, cleanliness and service to Members/Guests, under general supervision. Ensures member(s)/guest(s) satisfaction by delivering excellent customer service.
2. Greets customers courteously, answers questions professionally and accurately and escalates issues to leadership as necessary
3. Ensures the safety of patrons of the Westfield Country Club pool by preventing and responding to emergencies.
4. Maintains check in and monitoring of members and guests in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
5. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
6. Accurately and effectively communicates and as needed enforces pool procedures, rules, and standards with patrons and other employees. Ensures effective communications in emergency situations.
7. Provides a clean, well-maintained and safe aquatic environment in compliance with both club and public health department standards. Performs cleaning and various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility. Checks pool water to ensure safety of guests and applies appropriate chemicals as necessary.
8. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
9. Depending on the shift assigned, opens and prepares pool at the beginning of the day, closes and secures pool at the end of the day.
10. Achieves the high standards of quality, production, cooperation, and service set by Westfield for our employees, guests and customers.
11. Gains knowledge of available daily programs, answers questions about available food and beverage items, and may assist with additional recreational activities.
12. Provides immediate attention to all members and guests in accordance to the Hospitality Operations Department Universal Standards. Displays a duty of care to guests and team members by following Westfield safety guidelines and informing others of policy and procedures.
13. Complies with all OSHA and Westfield safety/training/certification standards within required timeframes.
14. Consistently reports to work on time and completes shifts, as scheduled.
Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)
1. CPR Certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
2. Current certification as Lifeguard or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
3. Ability to effectively communicate and receive instructions from leader, co-workers, and customers both verbally and in writing.
4. Ability to maintain a flexible schedule with the ability to work mornings, afternoons or evenings and weekends.
5. Experience working independently as well as within a team environment.
Physical Requirements (specific to the role)
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
* Ability to sit in lifeguard chair for long periods of time in varying weather conditions while maintaining vigilant visual surveillance on pool patrons.
* Ability to perform expected lifesaving measures and appropriate first-aid procedures.
* Ability to swim effectively and secure safety of swimmers.
* Ability to maintain movement, bend, lift and carry 50lbs.
* Ability to work in an outdoor pool environment including close and regular contact with pool chemicals.
* Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, e-mail, etc.
* Ability to climb steps.
* Ability to work a flexible schedule of days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
* Ability to travel as required.
