Fitness Wellness Specialist Job Summary

The Fitness Wellness Specialist promotes health and wellness to Westfield employees through conducting fitness assessments, personalizing workout programs, and teaching group fitness classes.  This role creates and implements incentive programs for Fitness Center members and wellness programming for the company as a whole.  Performs equipment cleaning and maintenance to ensure a safe environment.

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

  1. Assists in the day-to-day education and personalized exercise prescription of Fitness Center members.
  2. Provides fitness assessments, including blood pressure, body composition, cardiovascular assessment, flexibility, muscular strength, and muscular endurance.
  3. Teaches a variety of group fitness classes and counsels on health and wellness to improve employee fitness levels.
  4. Assists in the development, organization, promotion, and implementation of incentive programs for Fitness Center members and company-wide wellness programming.
  5. Performs equipment cleaning and maintenance to ensure a safe environment.  Distributes towels and locker room amenities, as needed.
  6. Markets programming through creating flyers, emails, and electronic signage.
  7. Helps conduct and schedule lunch time seminars.
  8. Responsible for updating the Westfield Health and Fitness Facebook page and coordinating posts on the company Facebook and Twitter accounts.
  9. Assists in organizing company-wide events such as a 5k Run/1 mile Walk and Bike & Hike event.
  10. Remains current on fitness and wellness topics, trends, methods (e.g. processes), equipment, best practices, etc. through research, events, and networking.  Shares knowledge gained with others and assists with driving new and updated policies, processes, and procedures.
  11. Serves as a role model for employees to promote healthy lifestyles and wellness.

 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field, or significant progress toward the completion of an Exercise Science degree and may be obtained upon employment.
  2. 6+ months of teaching experience in a group fitness format.
  3. Completion of CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
  4. ACSM, NSCA, NASM, ACE, or AFAA certification preferred, but may be obtained upon employment.
  5. Experience maintaining a high degree of customer service focus and professionalism gained through previous work assignments
  6. Knowledge of safe exercise techniques and group fitness principles.
  7. Experience developing and delivering aerobic exercise activities.
  8. Positive leadership and motivational skills.
  9. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, resulting in the ability to interact with all levels of the employee population.
  10. Ability to build a rapport or professional relationship with Fitness Center participants.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, software programs, etc.
  • Ability to personally, physically, and appropriately demonstrate exercise equipment to members and guests.
  • Ability to teach group fitness classes of all levels.
