Bank Accounting Clerk Job Summary

 

The Bank Accounting Clerk is responsible for preparing routine general ledger reconciliations and timely and accurate posting of standard journal entries. In addition, this job includes performing all aspects of the accounts payable function.

 

 

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

1. Performs daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations for routine general ledger and internal DDA accounts.

2. Performs all aspects of the accounts payable function, including invoice data entry, general ledger coding, scanning, approvals, and check/ach preparation.

3. Posts general ledger entries on a daily basis to balance with the Federal Reserve Bank and other correspondent banks.

4. Collaborates with multiple departments to obtain resolution on outstanding reconciliation items in a timely manner and to obtain proper approval for all invoices.

5. Inputs daily ledger balance data from subsidiary system to general ledger.

6. Accumulates and tracks entries for fixed assets and prepaid items on a monthly basis, and demonstrates knowledge of these accounts for purposes of the accounts payable function.

7. Inputs investor loan information into the core system and subsidiary ledgers.

8. Assists with timely and accurate preparation and distribution of 1099 forms.

9. Provides assistance in response to regulatory and internal/external audit requests.

10. Maintains awareness, understanding, and compliance with the Bank's internal policies and procedures, laws, and regulations appropriate for this position.

11. Travels occasionally in order to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between office locations.

 

 

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

1. Minimum 2 years experience in an accounting, bookkeeping, and/or office administrative role.

2. Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office, specifically Excel, or other transferable software packages.

3. Experience being accurate with a focus on attention to details via previous work assignments.

4. Excellent communication skills resulting in the ability to interact with customers, service providers, and bank personnel of all levels.

5. Banking industry skills is a plus.

6. High School diploma, GED, or commensurate experience.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

• Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).

• Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as:  telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.

• Ability to physically and accurately file.

• Ability to travel as required.
